Over recent years, Beaufort County School District schools have made dramatic progress with across-the-board improvements in student achievement and nine straight years of increased graduation rates. Standardized test scores have increased for all types of students despite higher poverty rates in our county.
District ratings on state and federal accountability measures have improved, high school graduation rates have increased, and district schools, students and teachers have earned numerous state and national honors in both academics and athletics.
In 2020, county voters overwhelmingly approved a $344 million school bond referendum aimed at improving school safety, renovating facilities and adding classroom space to address enrollment and growth. Work on referendum-funded projects will continue through 2025.
Our Growing District
The district's Connect2Learn program puts a mobile computer in the hands of every students in grades K-12. Students can take their computers home to continue their learning outside of school, giving them access to programs, files and schoolwork.
BCSD Career and Technology Education (CTE) courses prepare our students for high-paying jobs and industry certifications in rapidly emerging fields. Parents can apply to send their children to CTE or academic programs across the district, regardless of where they live. Families can indicate their preferences for instructional options that included Advanced Math, Engineering and Science Academies, Montessori, arts infusion and early college and leadership programs. For our youngest learners we have added 260 full-day pre-K slots which has allowed schools to reduce or eliminate waiting lists of at-risk children who need focused attention before they start regular classes.
Our volunteer and mentoring programs allow our committed community members to work one-on-one with at-risk students, and local businesses and professional organizations continue to provide relevant internships and on-the-job training opportunities.
