BCSD announces Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year

 

Bradley Tarrance, Principal of Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, has been named the District's 2025-26 Principal of the Year. Geneva Young of Lady’s Island Middle School has been awarded the title of District Assistant Principal of the Year.

 

“We are extremely proud to celebrate our Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year,” said Superintendent Frank Rodriguez. “Their outstanding leadership, dedication, and tireless commitment to our students, staff, and community make a lasting difference and inspire excellence throughout our schools.”

 

Tarrance reflected on the significance of the award, emphasizing the collective achievement behind the recognition. "This is an incredible honor, not just individually for myself, but also for the entire Robert Smalls Leadership Academy community. It proves that being a principal is not just managing a building, but growing that beloved community that's grounded in equity, excellence, and expectations. I'm just thrilled to be able to represent my community and Robert Smalls leadership community.”

 

Young felt the recognition reflects a shared effort and deep commitment. “Even though I'm being named the assistant principal of the year, it honestly goes back to the staff, students, community members that I'm working for. They have entrusted me. It's not my award as district AP of the year. It's our award. I'm always willing to be able to help, to share ideas, to make the students see their potential, and just be their cheerleader.”

 

The selection process for these prestigious awards involved both peer nominations and applications. The winners were chosen for their exceptional dedication, hard work, and positive impact on their schools.

 

 

 

The Principal of the Year will now have the opportunity to compete at the state level, showcasing the outstanding leadership that defines Beaufort County.
