Beaufort County School District Celebrates Groundbreakings for Lady’s Island Middle School and Beaufort High School CTE Facility

BEAUFORT, S.C.– Beaufort County School District (BCSD) marked a significant milestone in its commitment to modern, future-ready learning environments with two groundbreaking ceremonies held Friday, May 22, for Lady’s Island Middle School and the Beaufort High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) building.

District leaders, school board members, students, faculty, and community partners gathered to celebrate the start of construction on both projects, which are funded through the voter-approved 2023 BCSD Bond Referendum.

Lady’s Island Middle School
The morning ceremony took place at Lady’s Island Middle School, where attendees celebrated the start of construction on an 84,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. The new school, scheduled to open in January 2028, will replace the existing campus on the same site and is designed to support innovative, collaborative learning.
The project is led by Quackenbush Architects + Planners, with Thompson Turner Construction serving as construction manager.

Speakers highlighted how the new facility will enhance student experiences through modernized classrooms, flexible learning spaces, and improved infrastructure that supports both academic excellence and student well-being.

Beaufort High School Career & Technical Education Building
Later in the day, BCSD broke ground on a new 10,875-square-foot Career and Technical Education building at Beaufort High School. The addition is set to open in August 2027 and will provide dedicated classroom and lab space for programs in construction trades and public safety, including firefighter training.

The project is designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith, with Thompson Turner Construction managing construction.

The new CTE facility reflects the district’s focus on preparing students for high-demand careers while strengthening connections between education and the local workforce. The programs housed in the building are expected to provide hands-on, real-world learning opportunities aligned with regional industry needs.
