District leaders, educators, students, families, and community members gathered to officially open the redesigned early learning space created to support children from birth through age five with engaging literacy, STEAM, and play-based learning opportunities.

“It's an honor to be able to recognize Pastor Moore for his service to not only the community, but to the Beaufort County School District. He is one that is always engaged, always involved, and cares deeply about the children that we serve,” Superintendent Dr. Frank Rodriguez said. “Pastor Moore is one of those champions for children in a community.”

During the ceremony, Moore expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on the importance of education in his own life.

“I quickly learned that education and faith in God make a human being unstoppable in life,” Moore said. “And so, that’s what I see in our children is the opportunity to go and be anything they want to be.”

The newly renovated library was designed with developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support early literacy and whole-child development.

“This library was created with great intention,” Ashley Gould, Director of Readiness, said. “We have great hands-on experiences that allow children to build problem solving skills, curiosity, language skills, and all aspects of development.”

The space includes interactive sensory stations, collaborative building areas, and other exploration opportunities. “Children’s curiosity can grow across many areas of learning,” Gould said.

Moore’s connection to the Whale Branch community spans generations of students and families. Known for his steady presence and mentorship, he supports initiatives that strengthen educational opportunities across the community.

“Pastor Moore has been a constant presence in this community. He has advocated so much for not only James J. Davis Early Learning Center but for the entire Well Branch community,” Principal Carlos Williams said.

The dedication ceremony was part of the district’s inaugural James J. Davis Day to honor the school’s namesake and former principal. The event included student musical performances, personal reflections, and tours of the renovated library space.

“The inaugural James J. Davis Day was the perfect opportunity for us to honor and celebrate Pastor Moore and a great opportunity to bring our community together and celebrate the students that we serve every day,” Dr. N’kia Campbell, Officer of Academic Initiatives, said.

James J. Davis Day also served as the kickoff to the district’s fifth annual African American Education History Conference, Untold Stories.
