District maintains superb Aa1 credit rating

Moody’s Investors Service has again assigned the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) an Aa1 underlying credit rating, its second-highest possible score. There is not another District in South Carolina with a higher Moody’s rating.

The district’s Aa1 rating demonstrates:

  • A strong revenue base supported by growing population,
  • Relatively high resident income and wealth, and
  • Sound financial management with prudent budgeting and capital planning.

“The Board’s hard work alongside Superintendent Rodriguez, and the BCSD finance department led by Chief Financial Officer Tonya Crosby, makes this designation possible,” said Board of Education Chair, Col. Dick Geier. “I’m pleased the rating analysis recognizes the district's growing tax base and consistently solid fund balance ratio that is predicted to remain stable. Available reserves in the general fund have consistently increased in line with the district's growing budget.”

“Moody’s outstanding rating affords the district and taxpayers the benefit of low interest rates on school bonds,” said Superintendent Rodriguez. “The excellent and consistent work of the district that has continuously led to this rating continues to benefit our entire community.”
