Weather Update
We understand that as parents and guardians you are eager to get the school year started, as are we. However, we want to ensure we do so safely. (We have many factors to consider, especially projected high-winds and flooding that can prohibit the safe travel of school buses.)
We are reaching out to let you know that BCSD is continuing to monitor potential weather conditions associated with Tropical Storm Debby and is in frequent communication with Beaufort County Emergency Management.
Although it appears likely we may need to postpone the first day of school, we will make a final decision based on the information we have within the operational timeframe needed to keep students and employees safe districtwide. Our next update will be tomorrow, Monday, August 5, and we will continue to make daily updates as needed.
We understand that you need as much advanced notice as possible regarding any decisions so you can plan accordingly for your family’s needs. However, please know we don’t take the possibility of postponing the start of the school year lightly as to avoid students having to utilize make-up days during the winter break, especially since e-learning is not an option this week as device distribution is still taking place.
Please stay safe and continue to monitor your email and the district’s websites and social media channels for the latest communications, as well as local media outlets for weather conditions.
