Gifted & Talented Screenings

The screening process for the 2022-2023 school year will take place at three district sites during January and February on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

The screening process for students consist of:

  • A Referral Form completed by a parent, teacher, or administrator.  If the school does not have a fine arts program specific to the fine arts discipline area for which screening is requested, a referral form can be submitted by a teacher (outside of the school district) who has direct knowledge of the student’s high potential in the artistic discipline area.
  • Critique and evaluation by a panel of judges of the following screening phases:
    • Submission of Virtual Evidence* - a digital portfolio (visual arts) or recorded performance (music, dance, theater) as initial evidence. Complete the Submission Form.
    • On-site Audition
      • Interview with a panel of judges;
      • Performance of an unfamiliar music, dance, or theater selection (performing arts) or realistic drawing of a still life (visual arts).

The Beaufort County School District offers unique opportunities for creative expression and artistic growth to artistically gifted and talented students in 3rd through 8th grade. Students who participate and are successfully identified as gifted and talented according to the South Carolina Department of Education regulations are eligible to participate in extra arts opportunities offered during the summer at the Sea Island School for the Arts (SISA). SISA will take place in June 2023.

If you believe your student may be potentially artistically gifted and talented, please visit the Gifted & Talented webpage for additional information and submit a Referral Form
