Colleges and universities to make ‘sales pitches’
to more than 2,500 students at 2017 College Fair

BEAUFORT – More than 70 colleges and universities will make sales pitches to Beaufort County public and private high school juniors and seniors Friday at a college fair that’s expected to draw more than 2,500 students to the University of South Carolina Beaufort.

Schools advertising their programs to students will range from small private colleges to large public universities.  Local schools will include the University of South Carolina-Beaufort and the Technical College of the Lowcountry, while out-of-state schools will include universities such as Florida State, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Kent State and Marshall.

Students will visit booths staffed by college and university representatives who will answer students’ questions about academic offerings, tuition costs and scholarship opportunities.

Juniors and seniors from across Beaufort County will be transported to USCB in buses.  Each high school will be allotted its own time slot with college representatives.

Superintendent Jeff Moss said that the annual college fair’s goal is to focus students on preparing for new goals.

“Our school counselors emphasize to students that the best careers out there are going to require more education beyond high school,” Moss said.  “The annual college fair is part of that emphasis.  Our students get to sample more than 70 college and university programs in one place, and they also get a kick out of all of those schools competing for their attention.”
