Board of Education approves April 21 bond
referendum, purchases of mobile classrooms

BEAUFORT – The Beaufort County Board of Education voted tonight to hold a county-wide bond referendum on April 21 aimed at adding classroom space to address student enrollment growth in the southern part of the county.

If county voters approve, general obligation bonds not to exceed $76 million would be used to build additional classrooms at River Ridge Academy and May River High School, a new school in Bluffton and new Career and Technical Education buildings at Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island high schools similar to current facilities at Battery Creek and May River high schools.

In a separate vote, the Board approved funds not to exceed $1.2 million to purchase and install mobile classrooms at Pritchardville Elementary and River Ridge Academy to provide relief at those two crowded schools.
