Mr. Kelvin L. Simmons is a proud native of Coosaw Island, South Carolina, and the son of lifelong educator Dr. Mary L. Simmons, whose passion for learning helped shape his own dedication to service. A graduate of Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. Simmons earned a Bachelor of Arts in English before continuing his education at Francis Marion University, where he completed a Master of Education in Learning Disabilities in May 2025.

A father, educator, law enforcement representative, and community leader, Mr. Simmons grounds his life in faith, family, and service. With more than 20 years in education, he currently serves as the Behavior Management Specialist Lead for the Beaufort County School District, where he provides guidance, support, and leadership to help ensure student success and positive school environments.

In addition to his educational work, Mr. Simmons has spent over 20 years in the security and law enforcement sector. He is a South Carolina Law Enforcement Certified Instructor (Levels I, II, and III) and trains security professionals across the state, strengthening safety practices and professional standards in the field.

In September 2024, Mr. Simmons answered a higher calling and became the proud Pastor of First African Baptist Church of St. Helena Island, where he continues to lead with compassion, vision, and a heart for people.

Outside of his professional and pastoral roles, Mr. Simmons enjoys traveling—especially to his “second home,” Orlando, Florida. He is also a passionate youth advocate, committed to empowering the next generation and equipping them to become a transformative force for good.

Mr. Simmons lives by the motto:
“It’s not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude.”
