Regional school choice fairs conclude; parents head to individual school events

BEAUFORT – Following two regional school choice information fairs in the northern and southern portions of the county, individual schools will now begin holding their own events to provide more details on their curriculum offerings.

All district schools are “choice” schools, meaning that students whose applications are accepted can attend schools outside their zoned attendance areas.  More than 2,000 children are doing that for the current school year.

Curriculum options approved by the Board of Education include such instructional choices as Montessori, International Baccalaureate, arts infused, Classical Studies, dual language immersion, early college, leadership programs and advanced math and science.

School choice applications will be posted to the district’s website on Thursday, Feb. 1, and must be turned in by 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 28.  Paper copies of the application will be available in school offices.

Moss said that all district schools will maintain a science, technology, engineering and mathematics focus, as well as a core that includes the arts, world languages and technology.
